The Information Commissioner has also published guidance. He is the regulator responsible for upholding data protection laws in the UK and will fine you up to £500,000 if you get data security wrong. If the EU Data Protection Regulation makes it through, that could jump to 5% of global turnover and that’s no April Fool’s joke!

His guidance is therefore worth a look too.
