Data in the cloud gets a lot of press, including on this blog. And rightly so – recent revelations demonstrate there is a case to ensure data is used and controlled properly in cloud. Now a senior UK judge has said privacy laws need rewriting for the modern age and, of course, the EU Commission is still looking to enact its new general data protection regulation.

It’s refreshing, therefore, to read the Economist Intelligence Unit’s recent report and to look forward to a time when data in the cloud can revolutionise personal data and a person’s control over that data. That’s assuming, of course, all the data security issues are adequately addressed and we don’t end up living under the control of The Circle…
